Welcome to another devlog for Floe, our free sample library plugin.
New version released
We’ve just released version 0.9.8-beta that has lots of bugs fixed since the version we talked about in the last devlog: v0.9.1-beta.
Here’s the key changes:
- Added a way to display if a new version of Floe is available to download
- Fix Floe on Intel Macs
- 16 bug fixes/crash fixes related to edge-cases
- Offer separate downloads for Floe for Apple Silicon Macs and Intel-based Macs rather than a universal binary. The download is about 50 MB smaller.
Floe now checks for updates
If there’s a newer version of Floe available than what you are currently using, a red dot will appear on the info icon button (i) at the top of Floe’s GUI.

Clicking on the info panel icon (i) will open the Info panel with more information and options. From there, you can ignore this new version, or visit the download or changelog webpages. Ignoring a version means that the red dot will disappear until a newer version is released.

Checking for updates can be entirely disabled by unchecking the ‘check for updates’ option in the Preferences panel.
Stability and bug-fixes
Floe now works correctly in more situations and more in more hosts. Getting real-world data in order to achieve this was essential. Thank you to everyone who is using Floe and reporting issues.
Overall, Floe is in a good state, and lots of people are finding it’s working great in real productions. We’re not far from leaving the beta phase and releasing version 1.0.
Going forward
Our plans remains as follows:
- Continue making Floe more stable and bug-free and then release version 1.0.
- Expand the sample libraries available for Floe: launch new libraries and enhance existing FrozenPlain libraries for the Floe format. (Floe is the engine - it needs libraries in order to be the most useful!) We are working on a new sample library making use of all of Floe’s features. Also, we will release free updates for all our existing Mirage libraries so that they make better use of Floe’s new features, most importantly: tags.
- Improve Floe’s features and add new functionality.
